PUBLIC ADMISSIONS FOR A SMALL DONATION
Petzold assesses the ghost-like existence of two condemned extremists through the eyes of their 15-year-old daughter, Jeanne. Dragged through the underground by her parents since birth, and living in a state of constant vigilance and anxiety, the young Jeanne sporadically surfaces for air in teenage havens like the local CD store, a shopping mall and a boyfriend’s rumpled dorm bed. Her forays into a normal teenage life prove to be the weak link in an aggressively nuclear family dependent on her as an intermediary to the outside world. As tense and occasionally off-kilter as the family it depicts, this highly suspenseful film is a look at radical political terrorists as they unknowingly infect their daughter with the paranoia of their own youth. – Marlene Friis, San Francisco International Film Festival
