New Zealand Shorts: Whanau (Various Directors, New Zealand)

Hawaiki (Mike Jonathon, 11 mins) A story of a young girl's attempt to find her identity in a new world and her father's efforts to support her.

O Tamaiti (Sima Urale, 15 mins) The award-winning story of a young boy who plays guardian and protector to his siblings, but even all his efforts cannot prevent the death of the new baby. Best Short Film NZ Film & TV Awards.

A Very Nice Honeymoon (Jeff and Phil Simmonds, 10 mins) A beautifully crafted 2D and 3D animated film about Jeff and Phill Simmond's great grandparents Mariano and Elizabeth Vella who were on the steamer SS Wairarapa when it was wrecked on the coast of Great Barrier Island, New Zealand, in 1893. A romantic documation.

The King Boys (Christopher Clark, 15 mins) A boy wrestles to resurrect his family's buried dream. Clinging to the memory of his father, who never returned from the war, a boy suffers the moods of his shell shocked uncle. But when he uncovers a buried family legacy, the boy takes over his father's mantel in an effort to make his family happy once more.

break (Shona McCullugh, 14 mins) A long-term relationship is ending. Set in rural New Zealand a depressed mother makes the difficult decision to leave her son and partner. The film explores the relationship a nine year-old boy has with his mother and the ultimate loss of his trust.

Still Life (Sima Urale, 11 mins) An elderly couple discover that love defies even death.
