We are taken back to 1868, 20 years after the crushed Kossuth revolution of 1848. Clusters of former revolutionaries and peasant rebels were scattered through the land, some of them still fighting. Hunted and hounded no matter where they went, they won for themselves the epithet ‘the hopeless ones’ and became the heroes of folk legends and songs.
